Today might just be the first real spring day here in Maine. It seems we've been locked in the fog and rain for all of April. Despite it, there were some wonderful waves to be seen down at the water's edge.

We took a quick day trip out to the islands on the ferry over the weekend when the sun finally came out. A great little getaway when you live here. It's always a bit of an adventure.

I have wanted to work on a western landscape piece for some time, and by coincidence started playing with this image just as a friend needed a painting for a fundraiser in Colorado. I spent a lot of time in my 20's in the Grand Canyon, but haven't been back for many, many years. Still, every time I see a painting or photograph of this majestic landscape it reminds me that I need to get back there someday.

Standard Baking has been a bit too regular a theme of my daily life lately--sometimes it's croissants and coffee in the morning or a baguette to take home for dinner--either way, it seems to have found its way into my work. It's a great building. In fact, before it was a bakery, it housed tanks and jeeps bound for Europe during the second World War. Today it houses raspberry gillettes and almond-encrusted cinnamon buns.

From a recent trip to the outer beaches on Cape Cod. Off season is often my favorite time of year to visit this part of the Cape. One can walk for miles and see nothing but sand, sea and sky. It's marvelous!

The Standard Baking Co. in Portland is one of the most wonderful places to fine oneself any time of day. I love starting a weekend morning with a visit to the bakery for a cup of coffee and something sweet (that I probably shouldn't have, but do anyway). It's even better now with a two year old who, after devouring whatever I purchased for him as well as most of mine, then wants nothing more than to run across the street to the waterfront to see all the boats--like father, like son.
