"Heavy Skies", Oil on Panel, 5" x 8", 2008

I'll be absent from my post for the next week or so. My wife Jill and I are off on a week's vacation! I think she needs it more than me, but I'm happy to oblige. I'll only say that where we're going the water is warmer than it is here in Maine in late April.
Be back soon! Ciao, Cooper

Nauset Road View, 5" x 16", Oil on Panel, 2008
Fishing has been really good for me as an artist. I have gone places in search of the elusive striped bass that I never thought to go as an artist. As a flyfisherman, I pore over maps and contour lines trying to guess which combination of tide, temperature, and subtle variation of water flow will provide the most tempting locale for a fish. More often than not I am absolutely wrong, and when you go the fly shop the next day, they're happy to tell you this. But standing around waiting for this fish has allowed me to stop and savor the landscape like never before. In this image, the fish weren't there, but the sunset and the view certainly were!
